A peculiar tie rod

For a producer of agricultural tractors, a worldwide player in his sector, we developed a tie rod with specific regulation characteristics.
Usually, tie rods for tractors are made by two threaded male tie rod ends, connected by either a straight or a bended bar, depending on the axle clearances, which ends can be tapered and tapped.
This aspect allows a fine set of few centimeters.
The customer actually needed a tie rod that could have a fine set of 10 mm, as opposed to a coarse set of 200 mm, at the same time. Besides, it had to be extremely compact and resistant to high buckling.
This solution would allow the customer to offer a vehicle with a much better track adjustement, compared to his competitors.
We were able to satisfy our customer’s needs with the design and production of a telescopic tie rod with following characteristics: one tie rod end with adjustable rod on one side, assembled into a tapered tube which opposite side is internally threaded and is screwed on the pin of the axial ball joint. The axial ball joint has an external thread and an internal socket to make it more compact. Furthermore, on its tapered side, the tube has a double cut to host a clamp with two bolts.
In a tie rod for tractors, the anti-corrosion surface protection treatment is important, being the tie rod a safety component, as well as its resistance to the so-called “stone chipping”. To meet customer’s requirements, we decided to apply a high temperature liquid painting, which guarantees a 700 hour-resistance in a salt fog chamber, as well as high resistance to stone chipping.
The customer was extremely satisfied with FRAP product, which solved the problem of a better track adjustement, with high compactness of a completely closed system, giving the customer undoubted advantage on his competitors.
